yahoo news | Mystery persists at Epstein's New Mexico ranch after search for human remains
Three decades after a teenage survivor first reported abuse at Jeffrey Epstein’s New Mexico estate—known as Zorro Ranch—the family of another victim, Virginia Roberts Giuffre, returned to the gate to lay a tribute and demand answers. ITV News correspondent Dan Rivers and Giuffre’s brother, Sky Roberts, highlighted that, despite the 1996 FBI report and the recent release of millions of FBI documents, the ranch remains shrouded in secrecy. The state has now created a bipartisan “Truth Commission” composed of four legislators and funded with more than $2 million to investigate the scope and nature of crimes that may have occurred on the property.
The commission’s first steps have been a forensic sweep of the 2,400‑acre estate. On 9 March, New Mexico DOJ investigators used cadaver‑detection dogs, drones, and 3‑D mapping to search for human remains, but no bodies have been found. A November 2019 tip to local radio host Eddy Aragón alleged that two foreign girls were murdered and buried after “rough, fetish sex,” a claim the host passed to the FBI without response. Workers at the ranch were forced to sign non‑disclosure agreements with a $100,000 penalty; several laborers altered the figure to $1 in protest, and a prospective contractor walked away after seeing the clause. The current owner, Texas businessman Don Huffines, says he plans to convert the property into a Christian retreat and has no connection to Epstein.
Legislators leading the commission, notably Democratic Rep. Andrea Romero, say the investigation must establish a factual record before statutes of limitation erase any chance for justice. They are considering compelling testimony from high‑profile figures linked to the ranch, including Prince Andrew, who visited New Mexico in 2003 and dined with former governor Bill Richardson—himself a former owner of Zorro and a passenger on Epstein’s private jet. Romero stresses the need for a “government‑endorsed” account of the alleged crimes, arguing that the truth must replace speculation and that accountability remains essential even after years of silence.
