Time to try out the new Neurosis album today after @tomroberts and @Kitty were talking about it on Sunday. I knew nothing about the band's past work or recent challenges, so this was a real #MetalSchool assignment for me.

It was pleasant enough, if that's the word. But it will take me a few listens to really decide what I think.

An Undying Love For A Burning World, by Neurosis

8 track album

Neurosis
@TG_Esq @tomroberts This was my evaluation on Sunday, I think it has the potential to be a "grower" ;)

@Kitty I was thinking about your reaction while I was listening to it, but I was also unfamiliar with the band overall and had limited familiarly with the genre, so I knew some of my reaction was probably just me. 🤷‍♂️

@tomroberts

@TG_Esq @Kitty So I did this thing in 2018 where I decided "I want to get into Doom Metal".

I picked one album every week, and added that to the pool of albums I could listen to.

I picked 'Times Of Grace' by Neurosis for Week 1. I just listened to that single album, all week long, for the first week of January 2018. And then in the second week I had Neurosis and another band (Electric Wizard!) to listen to. Just the two of them! And so on. Building up to a pool of 52ish albums.

So Neurosis' album because this kind of landmark in my mind.

But yeah, when the news came out about Scott Kelly it was extremely disappointing.

@tomroberts
Maybe I can start with just Electric Wizard and see.
I have listened to a few doomy things - as in tuned down and grindingly slow - and I enjoyed them. But I don't know my doom from my sludge (yet) so I have much to learn. 🦗
@Kitty

@TG_Esq @Kitty I went with a broad definition of Stoner, Doom, or Sludge.

So I could go with extremely slow and heavy bands like Bell Witch, but also the groovy desert rock of Kyuss.

The very last band I added for the year was Black Sabbath.

I love this space of Heavy Metal. Slower, distortion heavy, often more psychedelic.

@tomroberts @I don't really pay much attention to the sub-genres beyond helping me know what I might like in advance ;)
Stoner, doom and sludge are great options and I can immediately think of great bands if you ever need any recommendations, you probably already know them anyway ;)

@TG_Esq @Kitty I think the 'Times Of Grace' album is quite good.

I'm gonna listen to this new one a lot this year. But it's gonna be one that takes a while to fully process.
