"It is outrageous that people will be buying homes that are expensively heated with gas when we have perfectly good technology – heat pumps – that can be installed instead.
Another two years of this really should not be happening. We are in a war, and a most severe energy crisis, and it would be perfectly easy to ensure all new homes have heat pumps now.”
Prof Jan Rosenow

Yet again Labour has caved to the housebuilding lobby.

Ministers delay new rules for low-carbon housing in England

Homes built from March 2028 will produce 75% less greenhouse gas emissions than those built according to existing 2013 standards

The Guardian

"The delay in bringing in the FHS, which was expected to come into force next year, is also likely to mean hundreds of thousands of new homes will be built with gas heating, despite soaring costs caused by the Iran war.

Last year, data from the MCS Foundation, a charity that certifies low-carbon installations, showed only 4,000 new-build homes were equipped with low-carbon electric heat pumps, out of about 140,000 homes"

@junesim63 and we could easily impose higher thermal loss standards, at the same time, would add about Β£100 to cost of average house, whilst paying for itself every year in whatever heat source is chosen. Improved ventilation requirements would reduce sickness in population so improve productivity and reduce NHS costs and waiting times, but joined up thinking is impossible for politicians.

@junesim63 Frankly, it doesn’t say much for Angela Rayner. I expect Reed to fold under any corporate demand, had hoped for better from her.

The real prize for the companies is this means gas infrastructure will have to continue to be built on all new estates, rather than people starting to be put beyond their reach permanently.
See also the brief mention of hydrogen, which is being used as a wedge for the same goal.
All the extra standing charges are also welcomed.

@BashStKid

It boils my pee, to be crude. There are several new estates being built near me, all with gas infrastructure and gas boilers. Yes, they have the minimum number of solar panels the builders can get away with under my Tory council rules, but it's lip serv8ce.

We love our heatpump!πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦
