Too bad Klein + Hummel are history. I still love my O 110s. 🤓

Back in the day I used a pair of #neumann KH 80 as secondary monitors, in white, matching my O 110 mains.

I never loved their white grills, though—compared to the black ones on the O 110.

So last week, as a bit of a night time #relaxation exercise, I took apart the KH 80, and repainted the grills.

#notime to #makemusic… but apparently energy for things like this. 😅🫣😜

@amadeus this look ace! O110's are so good! Do you like the KH 80 as well?
@solidtrax I absolutely adore the 110s. The 80s sound very familiar, but of course, in terms of overall build quality, they’re at least one step below what Klein + Hummel produced back then. Still, I like them—to my ears, they sound pretty neutral and perhaps a bit cool, making them ideal as a second kind of "double check" monitor for me.
@amadeus I have heard that the same man is still responsible for the sound of the monitors, which is super nice! But I also know that the components are still good, although in terms of reliability they are indeed no longer as good as in the K+H era. Do you use extra monitors or cans?
@solidtrax My main system is the O 110d by Klein + Hummel with a KH 750 DSP by Neumann. I only just recently unboxed my old KH 80 DSP by Neumann and set them up as a 2nd pair of speakers.
I use headphones as well:
* T60RP byFostex
* ATH-R70x by Audio Technica
* Black Hole Mini by SHOZY
@amadeus Wow, that’s a super nice choice of monitors! How would you describe the difference between the cans?

@solidtrax I suppose this is very subjective. But here’s how they sound to me:
T60RP: distinctive, flattering, fun (not suitable for long sessions because heavy and tiring due low end boost).

ATH-R70x: neutral and precise, less fun (good for long sessions and extremely lightweight).

Black Hole Mini: great blend of precision, neutrality and fun (love them, also because they are semi-open).

@amadeus Ok, many thanks for sharing your experience, that already sounds great. I’ve got a very simple (entry-level) ATH-M20x (very neutral as well), and some other cans like the MDR-7506, HD-580 and DT-990. Some are indeed very neutral. The ATH-R70x probably sounds much better, though.😉
@solidtrax How cool that the same people were able to continue working for Neumann! ✨🌟
@amadeus Yup, I was amazed too. I heard it at a fair from a Neumann representative.
