I just learned about a project that makes #universalaudio Apollo #audiointerface (s) usable on #linux! https://github.com/rolotrealanis98/open-apollo

#linuxaudio

@amadeus It's not in my price range, but it's certainly good news for owners of such devices. 😁
@markus I used to have a bunch of UA devices that I had to sell when I switched to Linux. For people in a similar situation, this is a fantastic news, I think. I would still never lock myself into such a closed ecosystem anymore.
@amadeus All of UA's gear is great, but personally, I prefer to use open-source software and hardware for my personal projects. At the studio run by a friend of mine, they use Pro Tools along with the corresponding hardware. Honestly, it's a nightmare because it costs way too much money.
@markus Yeah, I prefer things that are open by design as well. Sure, all those systems have their advantages, but yeah, I agree with you—I don’t want to invest in something like that.
@amadeus I going to jump on this with my devices! Exciting!
@mosgaard I'm happy for you! 🥳
@amadeus thanks, I’m still impressed everytime knowledgeable people create things like this for free in their spare time.
@amadeus Very cool!
If I were upgrading from a consumer-grade interface now, this would mean UA was an option worth considering.
@KatS Maybe, soon @mosgaard will be able to provide some feedback on how good the state of this already is.
@amadeus Oh, it's too late for me now. I'm an RME convert :)
@mosgaard
@KatS @mosgaard Same! 😎
@amadeus @KatS I might eventually join you anyway down the line. But for now I’ll see if I can make what works as an overpriced monitor controller work as an audio interface 😂

@mosgaard @amadeus Hey, if it works for you and it's not a limiting factor, stick with it!

Also be warned that, for all that their gear is (justifiably) expensive, I've never heard of somebody switching away from RME.

@KatS @amadeus I will eventually go away from Universal Audio anyway, unless they suddenly drops Native Linux support for all their products.

No reason to have so many interfaces (two + satelite) and plugins, and only be able to use a fraction of it.
