I'm mostly just pointing out their social/community model.
I've got at least one younger family member who went from drawing almost completely privately to drawing publicly because of ArtFight (if they encouraged writing the same way, maybe they'd be posting that publicly too).
I think ArtFight is exploring something that DeviantArt never touched.
That's more my point with this - that it's not that DeviantArt figured out how to have a vibrant community and now that's just gone - all of these websites are trying things out that I have never seen another site tackle in the same way.
