3D printing is probably what holds me off Linux the longest. Not the actual printing part, but the CAD/design part. FreeCAD is hella confusing and just does not click with me. Even the simplest things are so confusing.

I used Shapr3D (Mac) before, and it is expensive (260 β‚¬/year) and works super intuitively. OnShape, which is web-based, is free if you keep stuff public or even more expensive (1400 β‚¬/year) if you want to keep it private.

It's so frustrating when you feel that a tool limits you.

Turns out the 1.1 version of FreeCAD solves a lot of my problems, and I found this great tutorial video, which I worked through this morning. I designed and printed my (very simple) first part yesterday successfully.

@yatil The last time I tried FreeCAD (RC for 1.0?), I encountered so many software errors while following beginner tutorials that I gave up. I will try it again now. Thanks!

@pheraph This video has some of the new settings you want to set, especially that you can now extrude multiple things from a single sketch makes it much more convenient.

@yatil I'll ask a 3D-printing friend who started Linux recently. Are you also laser cutting perhaps? I create SVG, but haven't found free open source laser cutting software that properly supports it.
@steltenpower No, no laser cutting here. πŸ™‚ And thanks for asking around. I reallly appreciate it!
