what even are smoke detectors

honestly

what even the fuck are they at this point

change sets change types change brands clean them fucking _weekly_ doesn't matter:

false alarms in the middle of the night

these new ones were extra expensive because i wanted ones that would tell which set them off (because they're hardwire networked, one goes off they all go off) and once again one claims responsibility saying "yep I sure did it it was me I saw smoke"

there was no smoke

why

#SmokeDetectors #FirstAlert #ThisTimeAnyway

@moira dust and spiders are known causes of false alarms. Try vacuuming them clean.
@trouble Every week. It's not that.
@moira totally weird. The only recurring one that we have is shower steam reliable sets one off when we forget the door open, but that's it. Have never seen the issues you describe. Maybe swap locations, see if the trigger follows the unit or if it's the location? Any idea if it's a smoke or CO trigger? (No idea if alarms help you distinguish that)

@trouble it's multiple detectors, it's not one unit. it's always a smoke trip, never CO. they're hardwired so can't be moved arbitrarily but since it's multiple alarms in multiple places we know it's not location specific and we know it's not unit specific, as per original post. we also know it's not technology specific or at this point brand specific, again as per original post. i spent more on the latest set in part to see if it had something to do with noise on the signal wire; if some sort of RF was getting onto the signal wire and tripping the network, no individual unit would claim responsibility for setting off the network. unfortunately, one or another always does.

i have heard from _many_ people reporting the same kinds of issues.

@moira Had to get up at 5:30am last week. 1:15am smoke alarm at the top of the stairs went off. Got up & switched it off. There was no smoke. I go back to bed. 1:45am it goes off again. I get up and try to switch it off. It won’t switch off. I take the batteries out. There was no smoke. I go back to bed. 2:20am the burglar alarm goes off. I get up & switch it off. There were no burglars. I thank all the gods that these devices are keeping me so safe. I go back to bed.
