This is what I've been working towards for two years: a high-fire wild clay mixture without any store-bought or studio-supplied ingredients.

This mini bottle, minus the glaze, is made entirely from clays that i dug out of the ground, and it survived a cone 10 firing without melting or even slumping.

Now that I know it works, I can try actually making something big with it.

And, knowing that that works, I feel confident I can make a piece of pottery out of wild clay and glaze it with glaze made from wild clay and wood ashes, and then I will have a piece of pottery made completely from wild raw materials
@MLE_online such a neat project.
@MLE_online this cries out for another sentence. You could go with something like "and then I will be unstoppable" or the venerable "and they'll all be sorry!"
@ferrix I shouldn't post anything here that could be used as evidence against me in court
@MLE_online I’m just starting the process to do something similar with watercolors. Minus the binder - I don’t have a local source of gum arabic
@MLE_online do the colors indicate something about the clay’s composition?
@petes_bread_eqn_xls the colors of the glaze it the colors of the clay body?
@MLE_online I don’t know the difference
@petes_bread_eqn_xls the glaze is the shiny blue portion. The clay body is the matte brown area underneath it
@MLE_online this is an awesome accomplishment!
@MLE_online congrats! Did you have to do multiple test pieces to figure out the temperature range and mixture?

@MLE_online
Ohh, that's exciting!

Is it more a matter of technique, or of finding the right wild clay(s)?

@silvermoon82 finding the right clays and finding the right mixture of them
@MLE_online that glaze looks like it's full of ghosts. Congrats on your success.
@MLE_online really nice colors on the glaze, reminds me of spectrograms
That's gorgeous. Sake bottle?

@unusual_thoughts

that was my first thought..

great minds think alike

@MLE_online Thanks for posting. Tagging for #SolarPunkSunday

@MLE_online

congratulations! it's beautiful

@MLE_online Small yet gorgeous 🤩
@MLE_online that is absolutely beautiful
@MLE_online that's a beautiful thing, and time well spent!
@MLE_online fyi you can make good glazing using ashes mixed with some other ingredients (I don't know the full process) and get a glazing from the wild
