I know the Critical Drinker isn't a fan favourite with everyone in the fediverse. If I'm honest - and I always try to be - that's part of what makes CD videos a guilty pleasure for me.

Anyway, my recent invective against 'identi-Moonies' probably had most of those people urging their mods to nuke my account from orbit. So if you're seeing this, you're probably capable of at least some degree of nuanced thought.

Mission accomplished. Moving on ...

Why then do I mention the Critical Drinker? I just caught up with a video Drinker posted a month or so ago about the Paramount acquisition of Warner Brothers;

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ni41QPBUR8o

Where they do the inverse of those videos where Useful Idiots gush about how great it is that their favourite neo-liberal flavoured corporation acquired some troubled company, saving it from the evil clutches of neo-conservative flavoured corporation X.

To their credit, the Drinker did admit that making mega-corporations, by smushing together hundreds or thousands of smaller, more agile entertainment companies, isn't good for competition or creativity. Regardless of the partisan political branding on the tin.

So unlike most Democrat-aligned liberals during the 2024 US elections, he didn't come across like a complete tool of technofacsists. But that admission was an afterthought, tacked on at the end of an orgy of partisan gloating.

But in a rare and special moment for online comments - *especially* on social media - it was the comments beneath the video that made my heart glad. All the comments I saw as I skimmed down them, resisted the temptation to echo the Drinker's gloating, and focused on the dangers of mega-mergers to us all.

I hope the Drinker is taking notes from his audience, as he's always imploring studios, directors and actors to do. More of this anti-corporate non-partisanship please!
