Iditarod is almost over! Jessie Holmes won the race again this year. This young man is the son of friends in Seward, Alaska. He was a rookie this year and came in 22nd!! Amazing! Yes, that is duct tape on his nose...helps heal/prevent frostbite. Check out those precious doggies! #Alaska #Iditarod2026 #NomeAlaska
@MicheleV_AK if you finish that race, you are a bloody champion! No matter where you finish!

@MicheleV_AK Amazing "sport". Another dog died (the 154th), many had to be abandoned due to exhaustion, many have wounds. One set of dogs got pneumonia another kennel cough.

One dog was forced to race despite having medical issues another was forced to race with wounds on its scrotum.

As for long term many dogs have to be given regular medication to combat exercise induced gastritis. Many get myopathy and enlarged hearts.

Most live miserable lives chained in their "yard" when not racing. Raids by authorities have shown many live in dirty squalid conditions.

As for Holmes - well he is apparently well known for forcing his dogs in training to pull a heavy metal cart through freezing cold water.

What a "sport" indeed.
