No! Rebooting is the LAST thing you do when troubleshooting. You gather data and work through the checklist first, then make sure everything critical is backed up. That universe had nearly fourteen billion years’ uptime!

@Unixbigot I’ve got my towel
@jpm @Unixbigot Don't panic!
@NormanDunbar @jpm @Unixbigot I know where my towel is, it's in that universe you just rebooted. Oh.
@Unixbigot Well, yes, but if you don't reset the 'life' parameters, those pesky humans will evolve again and ruin everything.

@Unixbigot see also "check the simple stuff first".

Bitter experience is a good teacher :)

@Unixbigot Yes, the world is kind of buggered. But has anyone made sure the cables are OK?
@TristanB lol someone ask New Zealand to reseat the rams
@Unixbigot
Your universe doesn't support snapshots?

@Unixbigot
We'll have to take it down for Y15B anyway. Read the patch notes and make sure your cosmology is compatible with the new settings. Don't just check stars, they work under practically any fundamental framework. That doesn't mean self-replicating chemistry (sometimes called "life") still works.

And for the last time, a backup stored in the same manifold is not a backup, it's a hope!
