@jerzone @nev I was literally going to post almost exactly the same thing.

That sequence of photos looks like the squirrel is dancing!

@nev I don’t know if you’re taking requests but I’d love to see him with a little lip ring
@nev
Goth squirrel has been hittin' the gym no?!
@nev cool, melanistic squalls are rare.
@LanceJZ not here in Toronto, where they seem to be the most common colour! Not remarkable to me but I share for everyone who doesn't have them where they live.
@nev seriously? I've never seen on myself. I live in Seattle.

@LanceJZ @nev

the black squirrel is a michigan/ ontario thing

i'm just across the lake from toronto near rochester ny and i can count on one hand the number of black squirrels i've seen over the years here. the overlap zone seems to be around buffalo ny

@LanceJZ they're relatively common around the Great Lakes and are the majority in Ontario! Behold, the data: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7029058/figure/ece36006-fig-0002/

Some places have imported them—famously, Washington, DC got theirs from Canada.

@nev that is so cool.

@nev

That look is indeed incredulous I love this so much 😂💗

@nev

I bet it has a clove cigarette in its tote bag.

@nev
Up until this year, most squirrels in north eastern Illinois a black squirrel seemed very rare. Almost all the squirrels were gray.

I’d say that black squirrels represent at least 50% of the population.

@nev It's Friday he's in love.
@nev I'm convinced this is the same squirrel that climbed my partner's leg at Niagara Falls 19 years ago, but for some reason she doesn't agree that it'd have travelled 127km and be the oldest ever wild squirrel. 🙄
@nev it maybe spotted a fellow soul in the black eye of a camera.
@nev Hi! Wow, looks like quite a large squirrel! 🐿️ I think it's the first time I see such a dark one... is that why "the goth" name? was that in America or elsewhere ? :) Greetings :)
@ladupla hello! Yes, that's why I call them goth squirrels. They are a dark morph of Eastern Grey Squirrels, which may be bigger than squirrels wherever you live. Or it's just the angle making it seem large!
@nev Hello! Thank you so much for writing back! 🙂 We're new to the Fediverse
What a reveal! They remind me a bit of the charachers in Beatrix Potter's illustrations! 🐿️ 🍄 May be you are also familiar with them 📖
