I've been building an RSS reader for the past year. No unread counts, no inbox to clear. Just a river that flows at its own pace.

Today it's live on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. I wrote about everything that went into it.

Current

An RSS reader that doesn't count. What happens when you stop treating your feeds like an inbox and start treating them like a river.

@tg @lrhodes this looks amazing, thanks for the thoughtful concept
@tg
Beautiful! A shame that us non-apples can't have it, but we can't have it all.
😉
@bott not... yet :)
@tg @bott I look forward to seeing it on Android. A Nice PWA would be even better!
@knirirr
+1 for an Android version!
@tg @bott
@tg Does this have VoiceOver/accessibility support?
@johann yes, I built it in, but as far as I know, nobody has tested it. If you do, please let me know how it works and if there is anything I can fix!
@tg Looks very good! Will there be a version for other platforms, maybe web based?
@dvk hopefully! taking it slow right now, but secretly have been prototyping.
@tg your writing about Current was probably worth the $9.99 already
@chad man, what a beautiful theme. :) thank you!
@tg This looks beautiful, and the no undead counts is already winning me over 🙌🏻
@tg congrats, can't wait to try it out!!
@tg Congrats on the launch! I am loving it so far. I was wondering if there is any plans to allow for a web view. Two of my most viewed feeds are best on web. (hell gate & garage day news letter via kill the newsletter)
@roninwood Yes, that's coming in the next feature release!
@tg AMAZING! Thank you so much. SUPER STOKED
@tg argh! I am literally agog to try this on my computer, but due to circumstances beyond my control, that won’t happen just yet. But thank you for posting. This is simply astonishing stuff. I love the idea of what you have done here.

@tg This is a beautiful app, been giving it a try on iOS and macOS and I'm loving it.

Do you have any plans for Android down the line? asking for a friend 🥺

@tg This is incredibly beautiful. Thank you for this app.

@tg Nice! I made an RSS notifier for similar reasons, just show me something new and I'll decide if I want to read it now, or save it for later. Your "velocity" system is beautiful

@tg This reader looks beautiful, and the concept sounds well thought out. Though I’m not sure it would work for me. Some sort of demo mode before purchase would be welcomed.
@jxrxme i'd have to make it free with an in app purchase and that has /always/ felt like a bait and switch to me. I'll look into other possibilities ...
@tg If it’s only me don’t bother. But maybe others think/feel the same. And you’re right free + IAP sometimes has fishy vibes.
@tg Sounds interesting. Unfortunately, there is no trial version.
@tg congrats on the launch. As a staunch @NetNewsWire fan, I can’t wait to try this out. I’ve followed the evolution of the discussion with @brentsimmons and I love the implicit agreement on beauty of inter-operability of RSS and providing choices (frontends) to the users
@tg This sounds really interesting, but I wasn’t sure about switching readers … then I saw it supports Feedbin, which is what I already use. Okay, sold.
@tg Instant buy! I appreciate the Miniflux support! I’d love an option to show feed favicons in River so I can quickly and visually discern which feed an article came from.
@josh just waiting on Apple to approve the next update :) thank you for trying out Current!
@tg Oh excellent, looking forward to it! And my pleasure!
@tg Hi, I have a question: Does this also work as a podcatcher?
@pleonasticTautology no! not in the way you would want. But … another app for that with same philosophy … soon.

@tg oh, sweet! we've been having problems trying to find a good podcatcher for us, especially one that's on, y'know, everything.

a note for that: i do love seeing show notes (i listen to friends at the table, an actual play that writes connected fiction in the show notes frequently), so sort of option to surface them easily/by default would be neat :3

@tg beautiful website! And simply a fixed price up front? Sold!
@kevinrenskers thank you! please let me know if there’s anything I can do to make it better for you 🫡

@tg Your homepage (https://www.terrygodier.com) doesn't link to Current on the App Store? Only at the end of a very long article (https://www.terrygodier.com/current).

Also, when I’m reading the article, I can’t go back to the homepage? There’s no navigation at all.

@kevinrenskers it's brand new! I'll work on it a little :)
@tg Feedly sync integration would actually be rather welcome 🙏
@kevinrenskers they won't respond to my emails and appear to want an enterprise plan to allow customers to use their content. if you can get their attention I'm glad to chat!
@tg yeah it seems they changed the focus of the company. Unread (my old rss reader) does have Feedly, but I guess it’s time to move on from them. (Them being Feedly)
@tg also, I keep accidentally triggering the short swipe actions but for some reason they can’t be configured with no action. That would be very welcome.
@kevinrenskers they /should/ be able to be configured for no swipe. I'll take a look into that. which platform are you on?
@tg iOS 18. Here’s short / full right, as an example.
@kevinrenskers that's a bug! thank you. noted and will be fixed
@tg It looks beautiful! I’m excited to try it, hopefully soon.
@tg this is pretty awesome. I see that you can “bring your subscription” with The Old Reader, but for clarification: does that sync with the old reader or does it just import it?
