#EidMubarak and #HappyEid to all who celebrate from the #NYTransitMuseum! #DidYouKnow that the first mosque in #NYC and one of the oldest mosques in the United States is in Williamsburg, Brooklyn? The building is located at 104 Powers Street between Manhattan Avenue and Leonard Street.
It was built as a Methodist church in the 1880s, but membership steadily declined over the next few decades. In 1931, a group of Lipka Tatars, an Eastern European ethnic group practicing Islam, bought the church and converted it into a mosque.
