Imagine this in Australian cities!? I can, but not in the current reality where car-centric brainworms dominate.

Imagine the innermost few km of Sydney or Melbourne where the only vehicles on the road were public transport, taxis, delivery vehicles, and commercial and trades. Repeat this around every major suburban hub.

@trib I will never in my life understand why an individual person would choose to drive into the Sydney CBD.

(of course it should go without saying this is a sweeping generalisation, ymmv, if pain persists see your doctor)

@MattHatton @trib Especially those who drive to the city for M-F 9-5 office jobs. Those are the most bizarre because the vast majority of Sydney public transport is designed around getting people to/from the CBD. Everything else PT is a tertiary concern at best.
@bastardsheep @MattHatton @trib I live in the Melbourne CBD and concur - I see people in cars caught up in the snarl and think "Why are you doing this?"
@bastardsheep @MattHatton @trib I'm baffled why in this day and age, anybody needs to go into the CBD for a 9 to 5 job
@InsurgoFormica @bastardsheep @MattHatton the answer to this question is twofold:
- office rental contracts
- micromanagers
@trib @bastardsheep @MattHatton yep, neither valid from an efficient business perspective
@trib would love it. Cars are killing my area, even with low speed limits
@trib My office is on George St in Sydney, and man it's so nice not having any cars going down it beyond the very occasional delivery truck.
@trib @kottke I found central Paris great to walk through, the bikes are in clearly marked lanes, most cyclists obeyed the lights and not having cars everywhere made a massive difference. Sadly, Australia doesn’t have the appetite 😢
@trib
Add cheap/free secure carparks around the periphery with racks of electric (cargo)bike hires and you’d have a success on your hands.
