Pengilly@peregrine57 The game (Sonic CD) that the film is based on involves time travel as a core element.
Things like "bad futures" where Eggman wins and makes the world his metal playground.
I'm hoping this is the way they bring back Robotnik, through alternate timelines, because I can easily see it being cringe-inducing if he "got better" from being on an exploding ship in space...only to die again. 🙃
