I've been seeing a lot of videos and blog posts about the resurgence of #piracy in response to #enshittification . A common note is that its a _service_ problem, not a _product_ problem which is correct.

A company that has known this from the get-go and has never #enshittified is #Beatport - they're like iTunes but specifically for #EDM (sorry #bonkwave #genrepolice) I bought my first #DRM -free #mp3 tracks from Beatport in 2004 and (with some exceptions) I can _still download them today_.

Im only speculating, but I bet the tracks (almost all of which are more than 15 yrs old) I _can't_ re-download from Beatport are gone not because Beatport removed them, but rather because the label or artist pulled them.

Doesn't matter, I still have my original downloaded files, but the fact that 75% of my Beatport catalog over 15 yrs old is still available to me is pretty fucking good.

Anyways - #Beatport - #music download company that knows whats fucking what.

@tezoatlipoca You are correct, if music disappears from any music retailer, it is because the label (or distributor) issued a takedown. We legally can't sell it after that happens (it would be awkward to keep sending royalties for music we weren't supposed to sell 😅)

On that note, a huge percentage of music never makes a single stream or sale, this stuff will disappear from catalogs naturally (no one complains about that stuff though)
