I don’t often talk about deities, however today I will.

If such beings did exist and if they truly did lay out a code of conduct (my words), then why don’t they vengefully put down those who continue to harm others? You know, billionaires, HR directors, politicians, murderers etc?

It’s always seemed odd to me.

If every billionaire in the world died at the same time regardless of location I’m pretty certain that would send a clear message to do better.

@HopelessDemigod why would a god feel vengeful? That assumes they have stakes to care, which assumes they interact with the material world and need to regulate themselves. Then they are imperfect. Do you want your god to be perfect or care? Also, delusion is consigning yourself to never harm others. That's an impossible, perfect standard. Everyone has an impact that leads to suffering sooner or later. A better goal is to balance impact and effect by understanding suffering.

@atomicpacemaker

Why have a code of conduct that you are not willing to enforce?

@HopelessDemigod oh it will be enforced, just not the way you want it to be. You are rebuilding the old gods, the vengeful gods of myth. You have, unknowingly, rebuilt gods that think like today's billionaires. Conservatives who unjustifiably believe they are doing no harm by exercising their power through "straightforward" rules: do no harm unto others, or whatever rules they think are harmless. Go ask a billionaire if they think they're harmful.

@HopelessDemigod by the way the answer to your question is actually already interpreted by modern islamic thought: if god is perfect then god cannot be emotionally entwined in humans. God mediates indirectly through rules. The rules are created so that humans can approach but never fully reach moral and spiritual perfection. It is a pathway. Ironically, human imperfection corrupts the interpretation of perfect laws. You end up with the same problem in a different way.
