sports labor unions like the #WNBPA prove collective bargaining is necessary to set the baseline in wages, earnings and benefits for workers of all kinds, including athletes.

tech workers, especially software developers, have been gaslit about not needing #labor #unions. if high-earning workers like multimillionaire athletes and actors can be unionized, tech workers should be too.

and let me say this straight up:

Silicon Valley techbros have more class solidarity among them than their workers.

it is no coincidence that they unleashed the grift of #AI as unionization was gaining momentum among workers in the largest companies; especially Amazon, Apple and Google.

the main purpose of #AIslop is to kill any unionization efforts by tech workers.

now, more than ever, tech workers need to organize into guilds that’ll represent them beyond employment.

#labor #guilds #unions

@blogdiva YES YES YES

YES

Tech workers, as a class of laborer, have much more in common with actors and directors than factory employees. Plus we already know the "fatal flaw" of factories (maybe it's not actually a fatal flaw, but you know: the old "shut down the factory, open up somewhere else" deal).

Software teams don't have to physically be in the same location worldwide. Your company wants to fire everyone who works locally and remotely hire people from a cheaper place in the US? Nothing is stopping them. UNLESS, no matter
where they went scouting for talent, they had to agree to rules by a software guild...
@blogdiva I want this so badly. I think it is our best defense both as a class of laborer AND against the militaristic, surveillance bullshit these broligarchs want. None of those fucking assholes actually know how to code, not really. Yeah yeah, they did some CS homework once, blah blah blah, they can't build the panopticon without our labor. And they can't maintain it once it's built without us, either.

We need a fucking guild
yesterday.
@blogdiva Someone get The Nanny on the line (is she still the SAG-AFTRA president?). Someone pointed out to me yesterday that the best way to start might be with like, a coalition, and fuck it, I am a terrible human being but I am happy to do what it takes. I just don't know what that is.
@blogdiva techbros would rather replace us with robots than treat us like humans
@blogdiva Just imagine what a sysadmin strike would do to their systems... a simple sudo sleep and wooosh all banks insurances prisons airports and pipelines just stop...
