I used to live in #Lawrence, #KS when I was in grad school. There’s a street that runs the length of the “old” part of town (Mass Street). I don’t know what it’s like now, but back then It was filled w/stores, restaurants, cafes, breweries, & even a couple live music venues. It had broad sidewalks, trees, twinkle lights, benches, and buskers. When I needed a break from studying, I loved going there and just walking up one side and down the other. I miss it, what a special place.

@tiamat271 Aww. I love those Main Street areas too. We had one in my hometown, and my schools were both within those strolling areas. I don't know where one is near me now. I have a few cute shopping areas close by, though, which is nice.
@spiegelmama those places are special & I’m thankful to have recognized how special the entire town was while I lived there. I had a feeling when I left that it would never be the same for me if I returned for a visit (which turned out to be true). Once I left, I was no longer a part of its living history & it moved on w/o me. I guess those experiences only come around once or twice. But I still regularly have dreams that take place in Lawrence, so I know it’s still in my heart!
@tiamat271 I have the feeling that if you lived there, you'd feel part of it again. But living in Kansas is dicey right now. 💔

@spiegelmama oh for sure. Lawrence (at least when I was there) was known as a blue dot in a sea of red (quite liberal). But I still have family in other parts of KS, and I worry about them a lot. 😬

Do you ever get to go back to your hometown with the lovely main street?

@tiamat271 Nope! There's nothing left for me there. 😕
