Mamdani rode economic populism to the NYC mayor’s office. Now his message of fighting for working people, taxing billionaires, and tackling affordability is shaping Democratic campaigns nationwide, even in areas where you'd least expect it. https://thinkbigpicture.substack.com/p/economic-populist-moderate-democratic-party
Moderate Economic Populist Democrats Are Rising

Is this new breed of moderate economic populists the future of the Democratic Party?

The Big Picture
@georgetakei
Dems everywhere are baffled:"Who would've thought?"
@SharkAttak @georgetakei Taxing Billionaires, can you REALLY do THAT ?!?!
@georgetakei
Let's hope they follow through.

@georgetakei During his first campaign, Trump ran as a populist. He got the attention of people who usually don't vote, because politicians ignore their needs. They believed Trump was different, that he would fight for them. Now Trump is predictably pivoting to the 1% as his new base, assuming they will scratch his back and keep his party in office. And yes, now that he got their votes, he's jettisoning the folks who made him POTUS again because he doesn't need them any more.

Working-class voters who aren't completely locked into the cult will likely choose populist Democrats this fall, who might actually listen to their concerns.

@georgetakei I've heard that a few right-leaning Democrats have been catching grief for not living up to Mamdani's 'ideals'.
Pushing our government a bit farther from the choice between 'right wing' and 'nazi' seems like a good idea.
@georgetakei
Mamdami also had excellent in person outreach to voters. That is how you get around broligarch social media and Fox TV ads.
Precinct work, a fundamental of past campaigns, is the way forward for the future.
