So here's the current operating metrics for using Debian Bananas (Trixie and KDE Plasma btw). Keep in mind I haven't compiled the mesa3D drivers or whatever yet, because I'm lazy, so that might help a bit too, but so far I'd say this is not something I'd recommend on lower end M1s. I'm cruisin' along fine because this thing is speced out to Hell, but @cloudymax is also running the same stack on a lower end M1 and is suffering from overheating right now.
My current userland stack is:
Nothing is sacred and I'll likely be playing with changing all of the above since I'm on Linux now and have a lot more FOSS options to play with (also half of the above is now tainted with vibe coded nonsense). Previously, I made all my choices around what would run on both Debian and macOS because I divided my time probably 60% macOS and 40% Debian? Now, I'll be closer to 60% Debian and 40% macOS (I still use macOS at work unfortunately).
Open to recommendations, but I am a picky little prince, so keep that in mind 😅
