> This talk will discuss how James Mason, today’s most important neo-Nazi terrorist ideologue, was discovered by a clique of 1980s and ‘90s counterculturalists. Boyd Rice, Adam Parfrey, Michael Moynihan, and Nikolas Schreck used the underground music and publishing networks of their day to promote him and ultimately create Mason’s book Siege. Their linking of a radical cultural movement with explicit fascist politics, and subsequent denial of this as “playing with extremes,” clearly presaged the reactionary approach of 4chan and its spawn, who use the same playbook of “it’s just a joke”—when it clearly is not. I [Spencer Sunshine] will describe how this union of music and politics came about, and what the implications of this are for today’s subcultures.

> This presentation will explain how a neo-Nazi current developed as part of modern Satanism. Despite its highly individualistic ethos, since Anton LaVey first founded the Church of Satan in 1966—kicking off Satanism as a religious and philosophical tradition—it has been mired in Far Right views. LaVey’s early flirtations with National Socialism helped lead to an actual Nazi-Satanist current emerging in the early 1970s, which has ensconced itself as a permanent fixture in Satanism. Today, this current has become more popular than ever, as the Order of Nine Angles cross-pollinates with neo-Nazi terrorists, school shooters, and online child abusers.

@QueerSatanic

James Mason "Siege"

And what recommended reading for the history of Nazi Satanism?

Im actually working on something that mentions that and I'd like more info if you have any recs.

@Nagaram This is the book Sunshine wrote about the period that goes from the death of George Lincoln Rockwell up to the early 2010s, but it leaves off the more recent Order of Nine Angles, 764 stuff

The second talk should contain some more material, and Sunshine might be able to point you to the work of other researchers with more of a contemporary focus.

Neo-Nazi Terrorism and Countercultural Fascism: The Origins and Afterlife of James Mason’s Siege

A new wave of aspiring neo-Nazi terrorists has arisen—including the infamous Atomwaffen Division. And they have a bible: James Mason’s Siege, which praises terrorism, serial killers, and Charles Manson. Neo-Nazi Terrorism and Countercultural Fascism, based on years of archival work and interviews, documents for the first time the origins of Siege. First, it shows how Mason’s vision arose from debates by 1970s neo-Nazis who splintered off the American Nazi Party/National Socialist White Peo
