@mancavgeek like the time we were at an air show sitting near (and, critically, behind) a C-130. We noticed crew arriving and decided it was time to move. A lot of people missed this cue and were caught in the ensuing warm grass storm. 😂

@zkarj There is an airport in Greece that I want to get to some day.
Skiathos is vaguely similar to Sint Maarten, in that the approach is over the sea, with the runway threshold pretty much a very public breach.
All flights backtrack along the runway, before turning around for takeoff.
And because it's on a beach, sand gets onto the runway, and is often blown back off when planes apply TOGA thrust.
And people get blown away!
At least one person has learned the hard way not to park a car directly in line with the runway centreline...

@zkarj Oh, and talking of unfortunate events involving C130s at air shows...
There was a mid-air collision between 2 MiG29's of the Ukranian Air Force at Fairford during the annual International Air Tattoo, 1993.
Apprently, the only injuries were a woman who went into labour, and one of the crew of an Italian Air Force Herk.
The crew had set up deck chairs on the wing, and were watching the show, and when the crash happened, this particular person jumped up in alarm, then fell over.
Luckily, the ground got in the way, otherwise he would have fallen through the universe forever, but not so luckily, he broke his leg.

@mancavgeek I've heard of Skiathos and Sint Maarten. Seen videos of numpties at the latter. 🙄

I've also seen video of the MiG-29 collision. The only time I ever got to a RIAT (and I'm bloody thankful I lucked into that one!) two exciting things happened and I didn't really see either.

1. A G.222 had a bird strike (on an engine) during its display. I did see it suddenly land and a fire engine approach before it was towed off the runway. My BIL was in the Gold Stand and got the instant replay from the powerful zoom on a TV camera.

2. A French Marine F-8 apparently bounced or hard-landed after the show. We were still there but were in the car in the queue waiting to get out so saw nothing — a marshal we were chatting to told us.
