Traveling to an unequal country is one thing; living there is another. I've met many Europeans and Americans who travel extensively, including to countries in the Global South.

Some seem to genuinely care about inequalities and their consequences, and are thoughtful about these issues. However, it's a very different thing to start a project far from the turmoil and not have firsthand experience or understanding of the obstacles that might appear under those circumstances.

I've only met a few people who grew up in a privileged country and understand that. As a white man from a lower middle-class background, I acknowledge that I don't fully understand what minorities in Brazil endure. However, I still clearly remember how harmful violence in a country like Brazil can be.
