❗️ #Moldova has declared an environmental alert due to pollution of the #Dniester_River, #President_Sandu said.
#Russia's war is not just "the war in #Ukraine." It has global aftermath.
The cause was a massive #Russian strike on the #Dniester Hydroelectric Power Plant on March 7. The alert will remain in effect for 15 days, starting March 16, 2026.
#President_Sandu stated that oil was spilled into the river due to the #Russian attack, posing a threat to the country’s water supply.
🔷 There are now clear signs that the pollution plume continues to move downstream, and levels of petroleum products and aromatic hydrocarbons have exceeded permissible limits in the #Naslavcea_Soroca area.
🔷 Additional containment barriers will be installed at the #Dubăsari_Reservoir in the coming days to prevent the spread of pollutants.
