frictive frequencies

It is not unusual, but rather the norm, that the people behind Berlin's DIY concert scene are musically active themselves. They are all united by their enthusiasm and willingness to take matters into their own hands. They strive to strengthen structures and shape culture, usually under very precarious conditions. The concert series Frictive Frequencies now brings some of the cultural activists who usually work behind the scenes into the spotlight. Over the years, they have all developed remarkable forms of expression as artists, but have often taken a back seat in favor of their organizational activities. Frictive Frequencies now brings the artistic side of the organizers to the fore, giving something back to this scene. The series sees itself not only as a forum for improvised music, but also as a place for communication and exchange about DIY practices. The invited guests present their own sound languages and share their experiences in artistic and organizational practice in short talks.

we had a small recomendation in the taz here down (but in german) and in the tagesspiegel.. my gratefullness.

Somebody suggested in very good faith i should not have done the opening concert on the last weekend of Maerzmusik but honestly, i live in Berlin since 2010 and every day there is always 300 amazing things, so you just schedule an event when you and the location can, and pray to the serendipity gods that some people might stumble on your event..

i was very busy and did not really have a lot of time, but i asked most people where they found out about the event, and, on my honor, nobody answered "social media".

The concert room ofausland is in a cellar with stairs (9 steps) which a wheelchair cannot go down/up autonomously.

in this series a person dedicates only to accessibility, incl helping down/up the stairs (for those who accept the non autonomous option) and who makes haptic guides on the floor for sight impaired, or general complementary support etc.

We have been learning, some things diy, feeback and suggestions welcome.

Kris will be making music with a super 8 machine. He may set fire to it, i have seen it before.

Agente Costura's business are sewing machines, talking hats and a mostly fluffy multiverse of DIY instruments.

Laura will bring her electronics, guitar pedals, maybe a salvaged guitar, and definitely her curiosity.

We will have a dedicated accessibility support person, including haptic guides on the floor

Things to share about this.

A lot of people thanked for the event and bringing attention to diy and people with non mainstream learning processes (as in: no music nor art school)..

more people asked for more time for the talks, apparently we need more talking about diy..
