Before I stopped using it, I told everyone to leave my discord channel because of mental issues. That shit made me feel even more lonely than not using it cos nobody talks to me.

I've always had this trouble with IM's. I guess I'm not very interesting. Now with that age verification crap, I'm not using that thing anymore.

No shade to the video and other alternatives. They're cool and all and I hope more people move out of Discord so it burns to the ground and never recover again, but I'm 100% confident nobody will talk to me regardless if I use any alternatives to Discord so I'm not seeing myself using one of these anytime soon. It's just pointless for me haha

Oh and also, I talked to someone a while ago who prefers talking to "AI" when they're alone. They said it "helps them with their loneliness" and it "keeps them calm and collected".

Of course that person was friendly, has a ton of connections and friends on the internet. Pretty much stays on Discord to keep in touch with all of them

I stopped talking to them and their friend group a long time ago cos being part of that connection all feels bullshit. It's all pretend.

They're probably genuinely nice, but I don't see myself sticking around even if that's the case. I'm so used to being left alone I don't check on anybody.

Given enough time, everyone I become "friends" with forget I even exist. That's how it is in real life and it happens more quickly online. It's happened so many times I'm just waiting for the moment they turn back into strangers lol.

I just do my own thing as always. If people wanna leave me alone cos I'm boring, that's okay by me.

@reallylazybear I deleted my Discord account last month

Before that, I gradually left the (too many) channels I was in, and I explained my reasons to the few where I was actually interacting with people

I was hoping to make my contribution in the exodus by doing this, and perhaps I helped move the needle

One channel owner said they were considering moving, the others thanked me but stated they would stay, mentioning they were waiting to see big patterns before doing anything drastic

It’s going to take years of big groups leading the change (and losing reach) before we see any significant pattern, same as Twitter/Mastodon

I'm going to just hope Discord asks for even more personal info, fumbles with even more with data breaches, and becomes so annoying (and worrying) for people to use so more people decide to ditch that piece of shitware faster, pardon my language.
