Froward JasonHad an ambition to go drinking tonight (Shibuya? Sangenjaya? Jiyugaoka? Or just the place by my home station) but feeling oddly in limbo. Also weird going "out" drinking alone. I don't like the smell of cigarettes.
Glen Malley@JasonTrue are Sangenjaya and Jiyugaoka considered good places to drink? That is not an impression I ever got.
@glen_malley partly about my commute honestly. But there's an African bar in Jiyugaoka I like and a decent enough Irish themed pub, plus a bunch of small bars on one side of the station. Sangenjaya has its own Golden Gai equivalent plus a few fancier places, without the tourist madness of Golden Gai or Shibuya.
@JasonTrue I live near Sangenjaya but have spent almost zero time actually looking around it. Probably discounting it too readily.
@glen_malley there's a bunch of tiny bars in improbably standing buildings Golden Gai style near the Niku no hanamasa. And depending on what you're after a bunch of places along the road toward Shimokitazawa, and another section of tiny bars behind a koban near the department store whose name I forget. Plus standard chain izakaya and odd local places near (I think) Temple U.
@JasonTrue Yeah I'm not a huge fan of the stereotypical run-down traditional joint. I know that sort of thing is popular with some, but not my bag.
@glen_malley There's also a few places that seem like nice cockatil bars around Sangenjaya, and a jazz bar, and somewhere closer to Shimokitazawa or Daita there was an 80s-ish music bar. I haven't done much actual visiting to these places though just because of my aversion to smoke.
@JasonTrue before I stopped going out, I went to Coasters just outside Shimokitazawa quite often. Great beer and atmosphere.
