I don't usually write reviews on Goodreads, but I loathed "Magpie Murders" by Anthony Horowitz so much that it was called for.

"Ok, I'm done with Anthony Horowitz. "Moriarty" was underwhelming, and "Magpie Murders"was straight up infuriating.
For such a "prolific" author, the completely erroneous vocabulary choices are inexcusable. How, pray tell, was Joy's letter on the noticeboard in any way an admission of "infidelity"?
And the "golden age" detective / author name-dropping is bad enough without being repeated LITERALLY ad nauseum and then ONE MORE TIME just to make sure we GET IT and appreciate how clever the author is and how stupid he thinks his readers are. I feel like his (under-developed) female sleuth: clobbered over the head and broken ribs - not from being kicked - but the constant "did you catch that reference?" elbowing."
