Sort of orthogonal to this piece, but the whole frame of “liberal” vs “conservative” Christianity seems extraordinarily misleading and question-begging to me. People identified as “conservative” Christians like to *assert* that they are hewing to a kind of strict originalist understanding…

…but this is by and large false. They negotiate with, distort, and repurpose their putatively sacred texts to serve contemporary ideological needs at least as much as, if not more than, the folks they think of as theological liberals. We are not obliged to humor their false narrative.
The Rapture was made up out of whole cloth in the 19th century. The idea that abortion is tantamount to murder from the moment of conception is found nowhere in the Bible, and was not the dominant view for most of the history of Christianity.
Folks who ventriloquize 19th/20th/21st century political concerns into ancient text via innovative reinterpretations may like to pretend that this is not what they are doing, but we are not obliged to adopt terminology that indulges this fiction.

"they are hewing to a kind of strict originalist understanding…"

"strict originalist understanding"

Sort of like some #US #Republicans and the US #Constitution

All with the #OriginalIntent and all

Until it no longer suits their agenda to care
