I don't feel great about missing this last #movieClub, but between timing and :gestures at everything: I didn't have a 'miscarriage of justice' documentary in me

Gonna get back on track with Blow Out though, yet another one on my "been meaning to watch forever" list

but first I think I'm going to slip into the warm bath that is rewatching The Big Lebowski

There is such a rhythm to the dialog in this movie, I suspect it's one of the reasons it became such a Thing as people keep rewatching it

There are so many beats that are kind of like hearing your favorite break in a song

The first scene with Brant is so fucking good, PSH just completely inhabiting a certain Kind Of Guy
David Huddleston is perfect as The Big Lebowski but after Oh Brother Where Art Thou I've always wondered if they originally had Charles Durning in mind

Huh, I've only logged The Big Lebowski thrice since joining letterboxed 5 years ago, and I know that's not correct

I'd say I watch this movie an average of 1.5-2 times per year

I was hoping I could find out who did the voice of Mel Zelniker (of the Southern Cal Bowling League) and had no luck there but turns out that Mel Zelniker is a hollywood sound guy who the Coens worked with, so that's a fun easter egg if nothing else (might be that guy? Trying to remember if there's a commentary track on the DVD)
whomstever's voice that is, it's great
when the phone starts ringing at the exact moment they realize the Dude's car got stolen (seconds after it's revealed to us that they left the briefcase in the trunk like a couple of dipshits)
Richard Gant as Older Cop only has one line but he steals the whole police report scene with his face acting and body language

Pretty sure I've rambled about this before but in the summer of 1999 I worked just up the street from Johnie's coffee shop, where Walter and the dude argue about the toe, and a coworker walked down and had a mediocre lunch there (I did not know the movie connection at the time)

I think one of the Reservoir Dogs scenes with Mr Orange and his handler was filmed there too

"I don't need your fucking sympathy, I need my fucking Johnson!"

"What do you need that for dude?"

lol I never noticed that Maude owns a copy of Whipped Cream and Other Delights
"A brother shamus? What, like an Irish monk?"
The foreshadowing when Donny misses that strike 🥺

I wonder if anyone's made a Letterboxd list of "movies bookended by perfectly selected songs"

The Big Lebowski should be in the top 10

My LB rating still stands at five stars, which I feel a little sheepish about* but this is another one of those "I lived in Los Angeles when this came out and L.A. in 1998 wasn't so different than the 1991 L.A. depicted in the film and watching it always feels a little bit like going home" movies that I'm always going like a little bit extra
*Definitely a movie that has kind of been tainted by its superfans; I love this movie but I don't think anyone should make it their whole identity or literal religion
