Apparently they call this Post Metal, but it definitely sounds like metal to me. #Monosphere #music #metal #postmetal
@gavin57 post metal the genre for bands that don’t want to be called metal but want metal fans to like them.
@fistfulofdave It is strange. Psychonaut are another. They also sound like metal. A bit more experimental than Monosphere, but still metal.
@gavin57 @fistfulofdave That said, I don't really think of Monosphere as post-metal. There's definitely a vibe that needs to be present...
@fistfulofdave @gavin57 There are some genuine post-metal bands. I consider Tool post-metal. Russian Circles, Deafheaven, Pelican are some that play in that pond. There are others I've heard that I can't recall off the top, but Jake probably has some more names...

@wendigo @fistfulofdave I'm fuzzy on where the line between progressive metal and post-metal is.

Deafheaven I'd call Blackgaze, Tool I'd call progressive metal.

Then again, metal genres have gotten seriously out of hand. 🤣

@gavin57 @fistfulofdave True, it is very fuzzy. And properly, post-metal should be progressive, but it also tends to deal more in instrumental music and soundscapes (a la Robert Fripp)...

@gavin57 I think I never before listened to Monosphere. It's a great album, and I just started listening to their previous releases. Thanks for sharing.

I won't join the discussion whether it's post-metal or not. I'm really not good at genres. And isn't all post-metal still a kind of metal?
