And the earliest legal foundation (in settler law, at least) for most land claims is the George III's Royal Proclamation of 1763, which recognised Indigenous land rights in the Americas, and upset the settlers in the 13 Colonies to the south so much that they rebelled to get rid of it.

The Crown has always had an important (not always positive) direct relationship with First Nations in Canada, bypassing Parliament.

(Strictly speaking, since the 1931 Statute of Westminster, Treaty 6 has been an agreement with the Crown In Right of Canada. Charles III is King of Canada independent of his role as King of the United Kingdom.)
