Ran my first half-marathon yesterday: 2:03:33.

The first 17km felt controlled. Power on target, everything according to plan. Then km 18 happened, and the plan left the chat.

Lost 75 seconds per km over the final 4km. The post-race data analysis was clear: turns out I was running on half the fuel I needed (49g carbs/hour instead of 80+) while holding a power target (303W of CP 325W) that was too ambitious for the duration.

Lessons were learned here.

But! The weather was fantastic, and the route was stunning. I really enjoyed the first 17km, at least. Still, I’m very proud of my achievement. The goal was to finish it in under 2 hours, and I came very close.
@jorijn Great job! How are you measuring these power numbers? I'm very used to them from cycling, but only ever ran by pace or heart rate. Seems interesting, if accurate.

@dvk

Thanks! I'm using Stryd for that. From what I understand, it's not a 1:1 match to cycling for physics-related reasons, but they manage to roughly capture power using proprietary algorithms. Tests (not done by me) confirm that their power very accurately traces physiological output.

@jorijn Nicely done, even with the difficulty.
@jorijn Well done, every run is a learning experience for the next, anyway,
So, I wouldn't beat yourself up, that's a fabulous run for your first HM.
Now is for eating cake and smiling a wide self satisfied smile to yourself for a few days before you get back at it.
@robchapman I’m pretty content about it. Wasn’t expecting things to go perfect for a first. Taking a week rest and then starting a new training block :)
@jorijn well done. First one sorted. Hopefully the first of many for you.
@jorijn well done! Looks like you've identiified a few things to work on for next time. Then the sub-2 h goal will be ✅
