Excellent Trevor Noah interview with Mia Mottley, the Prime Minister of Barbados.

Mia presents a very real comparison of what it's like interacting with Americans and the Chinese in geopolitics.

The US in the early 2000s would demand things like exclusion from war crimes punishment and then if small countries like Babados disagreed, immediately threaten to pull US military aid & protection from the region.

Meanwhile China for the last decade has negotiated simple trade and financial deals that actually materially supported infrastructure that Barbados' citizens actually wanted.

The Prime Minister describes China offering infrastructure loans with 1-5% interest rates and no other geopolitical bullying. Just straight forward trade deals.

Mia Mottley, Barbados' Prime Minister, has started making the news again for demanding an end to the US blockade of Cuba.

What's that? Didn't realize Cuba was being blockaded?

So this is one of the knock on effects of the US kidnapping Venezuela's president and corner the country's oil.

No more Venezuelan oil sales to Cuba.

President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel explained recently how the US blockade of oil sales to Cuba has plunged the country into a medical crisis.

Cuba had no conflict with America and had ordinary economic relations with Mexico and Venezuala.

With the later supplying the majority of their oil, used for electricity generation on the island.

One thing I think could happen is that Trump invades or attacks Cuba.

He's basically been hinting he would and the news today is that their electrical grid has devolved into blackouts and its unclear if they are able to recover general electrical services.

This ratchets up the risk that Trump could try his hand at yet another regime change.

@nullagent ugghh I hate how plausible this is. Nauseating.
@nullagent Venezuelan "president"? "Sales" to Cuba? Are we talking about the same Venezuela? The country?
