The mystery of the fossilised keyboard 📽️

@Natasha_Jay

Everything I can't explain is aliens or maybe God.

@nlupo @Natasha_Jay
Aliens ❌
Ancient Gods ❌
Art students doing it for a laugh ✅
@afewbugs @nlupo @Natasha_Jay I did someting similar during art school, but not on purpose. I did not want to spraypaint that cardboard man in my room so I went to a silent corner of the parking lot. The life-size outlines of the man remained there for years, and many people wondered which gruesome crime had happened there.
@Natasha_Jay That moment when a minor troll becomes a truly epic troll...
@Natasha_Jay There used to be a good games shop on Elm Hill, I wonder if it is still there?
@Natasha_Jay some guy back in the day played counterstrike got angry and threw it outside and that’s why we have to fossilize keyboard
@Natasha_Jay It totally looks like old tile-work to me. Either way, the cement really deteriorated in 25 years!
@MBtrueb @Natasha_Jay Yeah, that's what I was thinking, that is terrible quality cement to fall apart that soon.
@Natasha_Jay jurassic Park ☺️

@Natasha_Jay

It’s brilliant to see Molly Sole, the artist talk about how she created the ‘#Norwich fossilised keyboard’. I have recently read about her elsewhere, but it’s great to see her and photos from the time she made her work which intrigued and befuddled folks for a quarter of a century!

@JugglingWithEggs
I'm going to have to look more about her. Where did you find her?

@Natasha_Jay

Originally I think I read about her in Norwich FB group post…but it looks like she’s updated her personal webpage since I last looked to include posts and photos relating to the keyboard - scroll to bottom:

@JugglingWithEggs @Natasha_Jay FWIW, there's a video interview with Molly Sole on the subject of the Mystery Pavement Keyboard here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxkCUi7HZfg

@Natasha_Jay
It cool by the look of it 😁
@Natasha_Jay Most things like this were Done By somebody. It's like crop circles.

@Natasha_Jay

I was hoping for a tale of tudor england revolving around religious artifacts and rebelious individuals and a hangover from the spanish inquisition.

But art students being art students can be just as interesting.😎

@Natasha_Jay

thought it was a tank tread mark

@Natasha_Jay @jbaert basically all i can think of is how that pavement has been in that horrible state all these years or is it Dutch to expect better maintenance?
@Natasha_Jay Everything about this post is so wonderfully fediverse.
@joelvanderwerf
I think that's the perfect compliment here, so thank you!
@Natasha_Jay did someone ping @foone for this concrete keyboard, yet?
@Natasha_Jay 😂 great stuff, she "left a lasting impression" 😁
@Natasha_Jay yeah, my money was on the plastic covers that used to come with keyboards. Art rules!
@Natasha_Jay My guess would have been some packaging foam material got imprinted from an actual keyboard, and had fallen on the fresh cement with something heavy on it, which had pushed it down to make the imprint. Was not expecting an intentional imprinting of a keyboard mold done by an art student :)

@Natasha_Jay
There's always a simple answer....

You just have to know it

@Natasha_Jay maybe someone could take that stony playstation/xrox controller to visit norwich someday!
@Natasha_Jay @catsalad Well, that was a tad anticlimactic. I was hoping for aliens or some haunted stuff.
@Natasha_Jay @rootwyrm That is rad as hell! I've heard about the concrete keyboard for years, but this is the first origin post I've seen; thank you!
