Listen, not every woman can be an Emerald, or Phoenix Skye, or even a Cindi, some women are Mildreds, the world needs Mildreds.
@RickiTarr Well, as we say in the trans community, "I support trans rights and wrongs."

@RickiTarr I'm glad this is getting popular. Obviously it's funny.

But there's some truth to it through interpretation.

Trans people, as a whole, shouldn't be expected to be perfect. Some trans people are glorious examples of humankind. Others...aren't. But we're all human, just like anyone else.

But just because a trans person does something "wrong" doesn't mean they're not who they say they are or that their rights should be stripped from them.

A trans woman in prison is as much a woman as a trans woman free.

And a trans woman who made you mad is just as much "she/her" as one who bought you a new puppy.

I support trans rights AND wrongs. And you should too.

@RickiTarr Mildred sounds like the worst witch name ;)

@patrizia @RickiTarr

Not sounds like, is: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Worst_Witch

I watched it on TV growing up so it's stuck in my head as a cool name now.

The Worst Witch - Wikipedia

@doctormo @RickiTarr I only had a few of the books growing up, never saw the TV show though. :)
@RickiTarr An interesting choice. Old-fashioned to be sure.
@RegGuy @RickiTarr curiously, quite a few of us are drawn to names that are considered old-fashioned; not that i'd known anything about that
@RickiTarr I find nothing wrong with Mildred. What I find wrong is the attitude of the plonker who posted that. As if it's their privilege to give someone a name.

@paulk @RickiTarr if they transitioned in middle age which is not that uncommon, it doesn't seem like that unusual or "bad" a choice - although Mildred would have been a name associated with older women even when we were young (you might even remember this sitcom on telly, it was popular in both UK and NL)

George & Mildred - Wikipedia

@vfrmedia @paulk @RickiTarr And there's Mildred Pierce, as someone already mentioned.

@vfrmedia That was exactly the first Mildred that I thought of.

@RickiTarr

@paulk
Well, they do say they wanna support, but sometimes its really things like this that feel like “too far for me”. It doesn’t have to be rational.
@RickiTarr
@RickiTarr mildred pierce is a classic film noir
Mildred Pierce (miniseries) - Wikipedia

@RickiTarr @hakona there was a mini series remake with kate winslet too
@RickiTarr @hakona (the film noir is from the 40s)
@Kierkegaanks @RickiTarr @hakona and its so fucking good. and read the book. the book is so fucking good.
@Kierkegaanks @RickiTarr @hakona A name referencing Joan Crawford in her heyday is well chosen. Also, Pierce rhymes with fierce.
@RickiTarr Totally, and I wonder if these kind of bygone names may be making a comeback. My sister, for instance, mentioned that a new-parent friend (of a friend?) called their kid Percy!
@miblo @RickiTarr Maybe they’re named after Percy Jackson instead Perseus
@farah @RickiTarr Aaah yeah, maybe! I'd wondered if they're just really big fans of Percy Sledge. Or the green dude from Thomas the Tank Engine…

@RickiTarr

"I liked my name pronounced by your lips in a grateful, happy accent."

@RickiTarr shoutout to any Berthas out there
@RickiTarr “Never pick a name you can’t scrub the bath in.”

@RickiTarr my piano and voice teacher's name was Mildred. Conservatory-trained, very straight-laced, pleasant but not easily amused. I learned so much from her. When she died, I stopped taking lessons because I knew I would never find another teacher like her.

I'm all for Mildred.

@RickiTarr so this is both lmao and fuck this person. Mildred is an adorable name. Support your friend, jerk.🤬
@RickiTarr old names are getting rare. here in Germany as well. I love to see people rediscovering them. also a great opportunity to have something unique. I love all the Lunas out there but how am I to tell y'all apart /jk
we have so many cool heathen or Germanic names.
@pipe_dreams @RickiTarr Older names make comebacks every 50 or do years. Just wait and see!
And yes, Leia, Lea, Leija, Leya, Lia, Liya,... I admire the teachers in the kindergarten my kids went to 😂
In my class in school we had Katrin, Cathrin, Kristin and Kerstin - sitting all next to each other 🙃 poor teachers...
@drchaos @RickiTarr Had an absolute legend of a math teacher with 5 sons.
Maximilian, Grunnar, Ragnar, Thoralf and Leif.
Guess wich one his wife was allowed to name.
Also another Teacher had an R theme going on. Piece of shit human but the naming, excellent.
Recke, Rolf, Reika, Rieke... Last name started with R as well.
@drchaos @RickiTarr I always was a fan of Mathilda. It came from a very old cartoon series from my childhood (Dr. Snuggles) and I named the Puppet my mom made for me Mathilde.
@RickiTarr Milly is cute af and I’ll fight you on this
@RickiTarr Mildred was cool female character in Ken Follett's Fall of Giants. Love the name since.
@RickiTarr Mildred is an a+++ name and I commend this woman for her bravery in the face of cultural navel gazing.
@RickiTarr username "theatricalloser" checks out
@RickiTarr I bet it’s better to be a Mildred than a Miller for some

@RickiTarr

Oh, the button collection she'll have!

@RickiTarr but you can shorten it to Milly as required, allowing for formality and cuteness
@RickiTarr and seriously. Why not imagine and embrace exactly what inspired that name choice ???????
@RickiTarr The world needs Mildred's, but I guess the poster prefers a Hotred.

@RickiTarr

Who wouldn't want to be named the same as this absolute queen 👑.

@RickiTarr to the OP, stop being a judgmental prick. Mildred is a great name, I support Mildred's choice.
@RickiTarr that's a load-bearing transition right there, ensuring overall ecosystem health. we dare not interfere.
@RickiTarr Mildred is okay, but why not Flamboyantyellow or Forcefulblue?
@RickiTarr
I, for one, Ricki, am convinced that if the world had more Mildreds, it would be a far better place for all of us.
FYI, the name Mildred is Anglo-Saxon and Old English in origin, and its root words combine to mean "gentle strength."
#Mildred #WomensNames

@RickiTarr Mildred's is being born to be the sweet old lady down the street who gives out full-size snickers bars for Halloween 👵

(I have an aunt name Mildred, and she 💯 is exactly the type of person who would do this  )

@RickiTarr

Mildred is serious womanhood. Nobody could accuse Mildred of going through a phase or transitioning on a lark. Mildred is for real, for sure, an indication that transition is valid. I love this choice of name.

@RickiTarr

Mild red, after her favourite wine?

@RickiTarr We need more Mildreds as I fear we're running low. I just looked at the notable Mildreds page on Wikipedia and there have been Mildreds of note the world over. A Puerto Rican judge. An acclaimed American jazz singer. A Zimbabwean politician. But the list is lacking in Mildreds born in the latter half of the 20th and certainly in the 21st, so I applaud this woman for helping to take up the mantle. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mildred_(name)#
Mildred (name) - Wikipedia

@RickiTarr I get Mildred, and yes, I support every trans person’s choice of names, including my relative who could’ve had a super cool name if he’d just dropped a few letters from his dead name instead of going with Pat.
@RickiTarr Choosing a distinctive name takes great imagination and lack of fucks given. My grandmother excelled at this. Ten children she bore not including a few who didn’t survive. Her firstborn was Addison Washington. Not bad you say. Hang on to your hat. She named a boy Sharon Leon. Another boy was Shirley Cosby. There was a Leland Zanone. Leslie was the lucky one. The girls were also not spared. Orinda Eufala and Otanja Fay could only envy sisters Oneida Pearl, Opal, and Monnie.
@RickiTarr
I am not in the game of how old-fashioned or odd names in english speaking areas sound. But Mildred sounds like 1910s suffragette to me and that cannot be bad.
@RickiTarr I bet the chucklefuck wouldn't complain if it was a trans man calling himself judgedread.
