I teach. Sometimes students ask me “Do the digits of pi go on forever?” I tell them that, yes, the digits of pi go on forever. π is irrational. But I'm only going to wear this for a fraction of my life. Because things change, and I'm doing this for rational reasons.🧵

It's irrational to assume that there will be no change in the future. We will clean the air, and the need for these things will decrease. Maybe never to zero, but so low that they become rare. In any case, I don't wear these 22 hours a day, 7 days a week. bsky.app/profile/nina...

NASA gets by with a number of digits of pi that you can learn easily, and you only need 38-40 digits to describe the observable universe. Astronauts wear these for rational, measured reasons. bsky.app/profile/nina...

Online charlatans claim that people want to wear these things forever because they are irrationally afraid. But our use is calculated. (risk calculations are approximated) “Forever” is a complex word to use. Countless people wear these. Forever (Charlatans cover)
