Two posts in my feed today. In the first, what looks like four air-defense interceptors - Patriots, maybe? - missing an incoming Iranian missile.

In the second, the Ukranian military celebrating a soldier with a record six Shahed interceptions in one day.

I know they're not the same, I get it but Patriot missiles cost $4,000,000 each. Just for the missile, not the platform/deployment.

Those Sting FPV interceptors cost $700.

Attached: 1 video The US base in Fujairah, UAE was seen being struck around 1am on March 11th, which has become routine. Video filmed by sailors showed 4-6 US missile interceptors missing the incoming Iranian missile before it struck the base. Costing a minimum of $16M in failed interceptors. #US #UAE #EpicFury #EpicFail #Iran #Israel

... and I guess the question becomes, what happens when the system whose side projects happen to be the only full employment, socialized medicine and subsidized education program in America, what happens when that system becomes unavoidably, visibly, on-camera ineffective at delivering the one output it's supposed to make it worth spending all that money to produce?
@mhoye they turn off the cameras and lie about its effectiveness?
@gvwilson @mhoye "The Party told you to ignore the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command."
@yoasif @gvwilson @mhoye my country's client states are already making it a crime to post images of Iran's missiles and drones hitting targets.
BREAKING NEWS: 21 Charged Under UAE Cybercrime Laws as British Tourist Caught Up in Missile Footage Crackdown

Detained in Dubai has announced that 21 people have been charged together under the UAE's cybercrime laws.  Its CEO warns even sharing or commenting on circulating videos or news could lead to jail, fines and deportation.

@yoasif @emma @gvwilson @mhoye In WW II, countries spent quite a lot of effort to try to assess the effects of their bombing campaigns. Now, people in your target countries do it for you on social media.

(I'm a bit surprised we (still) get as much footage of such things out of Russia as we seem to.)

(I'm no fan of the UAE or of broad and vague cybercrime laws. And they're probably not actually doing this to hinder Iranian analysis of the results of their missiles and etc.)

@mhoye @VitalisViVa And the nominal president saying it’s all great, we have “the best drones.”

As if the cost of our drones etc. isn’t exactly the (foreseeable, foreseen) problem.

@curtosis @mhoye @VitalisViVa in this context "the best drones" translates to "the ones that maximize the transfer of public funds to the defense industry"
@gabrielesvelto @curtosis @mhoye @VitalisViVa Just like Trump's perspective on oil prices.

@mhoye

It is absolutely an American mindset to solve problems by throwing money at them. We long since lost the idea of actually solving the problem with ingenuity, since that's hard to justify in three month earnings periods.

(Going to guess that money probably smells of the bacon it shared the barrel with, but that's also deeply American.)
