East Kent Golding hops harvest. First time for these bines. 469g wet so should be about 79-94g once dehydrated

I have neglected my hops this year while busy with the new job. One lesson is to always cut new bamboo for my poles. The don’t hold up in the windy and wet weather a second year

On to the racks for drying

Still need to pick the Perle hops and have some Riwaka and Wakatu. One bine of the Riwaka found its way to the bines and string for the EKG but fortunately that hop cones are quite different shape so can mostly tell which are which.

1.4kg of Perle hops. Drying these is more of a challenge. I really need to make some screened frames.

1.4kg wet Perle hops becomes 315g dried. Vacuum packed and going into the freezer. Destined for Helles, a Dortmunder Export and maybe a Scwharzbier and/or a Rauchbier.

@sumisu3 good reminder that I need to order grains for brewing a fresh hop for our upcoming hop picking. Did you get a yield this year do you think?
@stojg I got this very nice yield of Perle and enough EKG for two brews. My Wakatu and most of my Riwaka were a failure as the bamboo poles I reused from last year bent near the base where I put them in the sunken PVC pipes and there wasn’t an easy way to get the bines and twine on a new pole so I gave up on those
@sumisu3 ah, that's a bit sad. Last year my top wire broke due to rubbing against a ring and it was a bit of and loss of two bines. This year it's been rock solid. *fingers crossed* It's always empirical testing in the end.
@stojg 4-5 meters of hop bines are really heavy. Next year all fresh green bamboo poles and I should be good.
