Europe's Problem Child : The Turkish Path to Europeanisation

<p xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" class="first" dir="auto" id="d110388e100">The first attempt at Turkish Europeanisation was in 1959 with the Ankara Association Agreement and has been ongoing ever since. Turkey’s trajectory in pursuing Europeanisation has been complex, marked by periods of significant alignment with European norms and phases of growing divergence. Yet, President Erdogan has shown renewed interest in engaging with the European Union. The aim of this study is to understand the level of convergence in different policy areas, fill the gap that exists in research with the recent developments of renewed interest by the Turkish political apparatus, and assess the broader process of Turkish Europeanisation. </p>
