I enjoyed @sboots’s essay on becoming a “generative AI vegetarian”, and for a few reasons: it’s a great read, first and foremost, but also my GOODNESS is this well-sourced. Sean pulls together many, many threads here; always grateful for a map like this.

Generative AI vegetarianism

Hello, it’s me: I’m a generative AI vegetarian. The tech industry is convinced this is the future; I don’t want any of it, full stop. Why choose generative AI vegetarianism? Just like real-life vegetarianism, there are a bunch of good reasons.

@beep @sboots That's the phrase I was looking for. I like celery.
@beep @sboots This is perfect. I've been looking for something to share a summary of my views without having to write one myself. It contains a decent fraction of the harms caused by genAI without the judgment and objectivity of the spicier essays, which can hurt feelings and thus cause defensiveness rather than learning.
@twifkak @beep @sboots Agreed. I particularly appreciate the idea of it being "freeing". We don't actually *have* to let LLM tech get shoved down our throats. We are free to choose not to use it.
@danschnau @twifkak @beep Aw thanks to you both – means a lot!
@beep excellent description, thanks!
@beep @sboots excellent write up  and yeah wow that's a lotta links haha
@maxc @beep Aw thanks Max! 😄
