You know you’re invested when you’re yelling, “B!tch, b!tch!!” at your tablet & you have to walk away before you hit the screen.

This is agony.

@whoosh

Oh no! What episode have you finished? The styling etc. is so very much of it's time, 2009, it is almost cringe worthy but it was the kdrama gateway for many 😂

@KDramaQn

So cringe-worthy! I was having a hard time getting into it because the female characters are so one dimensional & generally clueless, but by episode 21, I am hooked and emotionally invested.

I thought I should watch because of its “classic” status. I’m glad I am - I have recognized so many references back to this show from other dramas now.

#kDrama #BoysOverFlowers

@whoosh

Just popped onto NFx to view ep 21 and now I know why you want to scream B!tch 😂

Some of the acting is soooo bad like the guy trying to squeeze out a tear with grandpa at the lake. You can see how Lee Min-Ho became such a big star.

Quite a few references in other shows for sure. The original Japanese version has been remade made times and in many countries. A quite good version, with a few differences, is the Mandarin 2018's Meteor Garden also on NFx.

@KDramaQn

Perfectly reasonable response to eps. 21, right?

It’s so fun to watch 10+ year old shows and you can just see the talent oozing out of certain actors - and sure enough they went on to become stars. I noticed that with Park Min Young & Song Joong Ki in Sungkyunkwan Scandal too.

#kDrama #BoysOverFlowers

@whoosh @KDramaQn I do appreciate the Boys over flowers OST too. have you seen Coffee Prince! Probably my favorite older kdrama so far.

@cinderdazzle612 @KDramaQn
I haven't seen Coffee Prince yet. It's on my list.

@whoosh @cinderdazzle612 @KDramaQn Hi there from 3 years later: Did you watch it yet ? 🙂

@hanktank61 @cinderdazzle612 @KDramaQn

Still not yet! So much to watch! That will be a goal for 2026!

#kDrama #CoffeePrince

@whoosh @cinderdazzle612 @KDramaQn
Thing is: I am watching Becoming A Billionaire -2010 at the moment. Good ! The only link with Coffee Prince - 2007 is coffee.
Coffee Prince is 3 years older, but looks more modern in a way. And is in a class of it's own 🙂
@hanktank61 @whoosh @KDramaQn I’m watching You are Beautiful and there are some similarities sort of…mostly gender bending and being from 2009. But I’ve been drawing a lot of parallels to Coffee Prince. It is seriously the standard!

@whoosh @cinderdazzle612 @KDramaQn

I hope you do finally get around to it. It remains the definitive #KDrama romcom - ahead of its time in many of its attitudes, and with none of the fixation on murdery/serial killer arcs of the last decade.

@whoosh @hanktank61 @cinderdazzle612 @KDramaQn
Let me know if you want to schedule some watchparties for #CoffeePrince! I watched it when #LeeSunKyun was still alive, and his character was a favourite for me!
#kdrama
@EllenInEdmonton @whoosh @hanktank61 @cinderdazzle612 @KDramaQn #coffeeprince is sooo much better preserved than #boysoverflowers ! Can certainly recommend, where I did not watch more than a few episodes of the Flower Boys, because, yeah.... #kdrama
@EllenInEdmonton @whoosh @hanktank61 @cinderdazzle612 @KDramaQn (that was a joke, it is really good for other reasons as well) 😃
@mel @EllenInEdmonton @[email protected] @hanktank61 @cinderdazzle612 @KDramaQn If you haven't seen it yet, Kim Jae Wook makes a great appearance as a guest in Chef & My Fridge!
@ShaulaEvans @EllenInEdmonton @hanktank61 @cinderdazzle612 @KDramaQn Ha, thank you! I'm not so into reality shows, but maybe I don't know what I am missing, ha.

@mel @EllenInEdmonton @hanktank61 @cinderdazzle612 @KDramaQn Ah, then it may or may not be your cup of tea.

I'm not in reality shows at all either, but last year I started watching low key cooking shows from Korea because I'm studying Korean. There's some non-stressful, non-cutthroat cooking fare that I'm really enjoying. (Much to my surprise, I would never have guessed that I'd like this. lol)

@ShaulaEvans @EllenInEdmonton @hanktank61 @cinderdazzle612 @KDramaQn Yes, I can imagine that it is ideal for learning a language! However, Korean is not the highest on my list.. #Italian
@hanktank61 @ShaulaEvans @EllenInEdmonton @cinderdazzle612 @KDramaQn Kimchi? Hihi. They don't really have fermented things that I know of, like sauerkraut in other parts of the EU. There is Mostarda as a condiment to meats and you have less sweet, more sour vegetables or onions, but not a real Kimchi-like thing? but I might not know. I love the onions that you get with meats and cheese in the mountains, though!
@mel How are your Italian studies going? It's a language that's on my list, too! Are there apps or learning tools you recommend?
@ShaulaEvans Hmm, I am bumping against the hurdle of trying to speak it, besides the basic sentences in shops etc.... I have Memrise, but I must admit I don't use it that often. I do understand it rather well, but I should put more effort in, so I can respond better and have real conversations. The 'trouble' with Italian is that you communicate with your hands and face etc which is basically cheating, and I do that a lot hahaha 😂
@mel Hey, being able to communicate is a wonderful thing! lol
@ShaulaEvans @mel @EllenInEdmonton @cinderdazzle612 @KDramaQn My thing ! Bookmarked. After all Korean/Asian cuisine has been influencing our eating-habits for years now. Not letting my 6x watching " Dae Jang Geum" go waste. Not 100% Korean, also all trad. Asia. I am the only one who likes Kimchi in our small group, Even our Thai DIL does not like it. But the basics, still learning. And, British/India-inspired Piccalilly is delicious too 🙂 . Homemade 54 % veggie instead of 33 % in commercial..

@hanktank61 @mel @EllenInEdmonton @cinderdazzle612 @KDramaQn I love kimchi but even mild spice doesn't work for my body, which is heartbreaking (and made eating in South Korea something of a challenge when I worked there).

But I am all about baek kimchi / white kimchi! After missing it for many years, I finally found some places I can order it online.

@hanktank61 @mel @EllenInEdmonton @cinderdazzle612 @KDramaQn Is there such a thing as spicy sauerkraut? I'm only familiar with mild.
@ShaulaEvans @mel @hanktank61 @cinderdazzle612 @KDramaQn
I stopped watching TV back in 2009 because I disliked Reality TV so much! Then, I started watching #kdrama on the streamers 3 years ago, and started learning the language. I'm still not a big fan, but Korean reality is very different from the Hollywood version. I'll watch a little, here and there. None of the food ones yet.
@EllenInEdmonton @ShaulaEvans @mel @cinderdazzle612 @KDramaQn I don' t watch reality -shows too. Only exception was Korean "Living Outside Your Tent" -2024. There is also Running Man, from 2010 . Still on. Nearly 900.episodes yet.
No patience for that.
@EllenInEdmonton @ShaulaEvans @mel @cinderdazzle612 @KDramaQn I did watch some in the beginning on YT. It was funny to watch actresses and actors doing deep-intense drama , giggling and chatting around in reality-shows.. Or the ones known for comedy being serious.
