"I am 63. I am scared for my own life. You should be too. And I am absolutely terrified for the life of my son."

Says one of the experts at the UK National Emergency Briefing. The video is a medley of just a few of the best Oh-Shit-Moments.

Tim Lenton appears as well. His short Oh-Shit scene relates to the AMOC slowdown.
And by the way: the Utrechter Team around #vanWesten published a new study.

"Abrupt Gulf Stream path changes are a precursor to a collapse"
High-resolution modelling reveals an exact Oh-Shit location for observing imminent tipping: 2 years before tipping into the collapse phase, the Gulf-Stream surface water transport ( one part of the AMOC), jumps 200km north.
Instead of turning right near Cape Hatteras, it then continues North and only turns right on the latitude of Philadelphia.
The area between the two turning points also experiences an equally sudden jump in surface temperature of +6°C.

These surface changes occur because the deep-water current beneath it stops its Southward flow.

Prof Hugh Montgomery is not the only expert with that perspective regarding civilisation collapse scaring him for his own life – at the age of 63.

Rahmstorf also used to often say "If you're younger than 70 and want to have a peaceful last leg you should become a climate activist now."

Slashing emissions rapidly is paramount.
But in my opinion, so is a U-turn in national, regional and global social politics.
We need to keep all regions stable-ish until at least the world has accomplished geological CO2zero.
Stable-ish is impossible with current widespread politics of national and international sadism and egotism, with the Neoliberal obsessions with efficiency=cheap, the obsession with incrementalism, the obsession with lean state, and so on.
We're at the brink of civilisation collapse. Thanks to neoliberalism and the #EconObscene.

Avoiding collapse requires different concepts than the ones that got us here.

@anlomedad

Neoliberalism and capitalism will kill us all

@Beldarak

Most, indeed, most. Violently.
But some will survive the self-inflicted collapse.
And the survivors will not be the ones who imposed their violence on nature. Comforting realisation.
They're simply not equipped for meaningful survival.
