So, what goodies were in my big box from Japan?

I'll post some pictures for now, but I'll probably go into more detail on each one as I watch/listen to them.

Let's start of with a trio of lovely #Ghibli #Laserdisc! Kiki's Delivery Service, Whisper of the Heart, and On Your Marks.

On Your Marks is a Chage & Aska music video. We watched it last night and it's possibly the best looking LD I've ever seen. My wife even turned to me at one point and said "I forgot we were watching laserdisc."

As an aside...I just want to point out that I seem to have a knack for buying #Ghibli films on #laserdisc right as they are announced for an #IMAX release.

I got Princess Mononoke just before it was announced for IMAX, and this time I bought Kiki's Delivery Serive and Whisper of the Heart a couple of days before Kiki was announced, and then they arrived yesterday when Whisper was announced for IMAX!

Any requests for what IMAX Ghibli film I should summon next?!

I also picked up another #Ghibli #Laserdisc in the form of this little CD sized "Video Single Disc" called "Ursula's Painting."

This short disc contains a 5 minute video clip highlighting various features of Ursula's Painting from the film Kiki's Delivery Service, while music from the film plays.

There's a similar disc for My Neighbour Totoro called "Mother Returns" that I really want to get my hands on some day.

VSD discs are similar to, but not the same as CD Video discs.

while CD Video contained both audio that could be played in a CD player and video that could be played in a #Laserdisc player, VSD contained only video.

I also finally got my hands on the two laserdisc releases of Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou! (Yokohama Shopping Travelogue) A lovely little cosy post apocalyptic slice of life #anime.

This wonderful OVA has sadly only ever been released in Japan on long out of print #Laserdisc and DVDs. `

Hopefully some day it will get a new transfer and a modern release!

I also added some more items to my #JimSteinman #JPop collection, with "Good Girls Go to Heaven (Bad Girls Go Everywhere)" by Megumi Shiina on 7" vinyl, "Our of the Frying Pan (And into the Fire) by Miyuki Maruyama on 3" CD, and a two disc complete collection of Saint Four which includes their version of "Rock and Roll Dreams Come Through".

I've seen them a few times, but this is the first time I've owned and been able to have a proper look at a Japanese 3" CD single.

In Japan the packaging was known as 短冊 (tanzaku) and the sleeve was designed in such a way that the long box could be snapped and folded into a square.

An odd design, and I've only ever seen complete examples like this one.

I also filled a couple of gaps in my collection of #Sayuri singles.

I still devastated that she's gone.

Oops, only just realised I broke this thread. It continues here...

@LaserdiscTurtle I obsessively collect laserdiscs and have now found you. I just picked up Lethal Weapon 3 at a record shop for $2, pretty sure the guy at the register thought it was a vinyl (it was in the $2 vinyl bin regardless, lol - bought at a flea market/boot sale).
@reverendstanley Yeah, I've found a few gems in the "soundtrack" sections of record shops over the years.
