As expected, opening a bank account as a foreigner in #Taiwan with an employer in another country is challenging.

CTBC Bank only accepts foreigners who apply for a salary account. That was not a viable option for me.

Cathay United Bank would have accepted my application, but they advised me not to apply. Because I tried to apply in a branch office outside the city registered on my #GoldCard, they believed there was a high risk my application would be automatically rejected by the KYC process.

@janmschnurr even with fancy gold card? wow. maybe become a priest? that's the only higher level of foreigner here

@tootbrute Yeah, even with the gold card and while accompanied by a native speaker.

Cathay United Bank told us if my application was rejected now due to the location of the branch I chose to apply in, I would have to wait six months until I could apply again. So I have to either change the address on my gold card or apply in a different branch office.

@janmschnurr banking is the worst thing about living in taiwan. i try to avoid them at all costs. good luck!
@tootbrute I appreciate your comment, thank you.
@janmschnurr
I tried the post office, but ran into a snag. Then I went to Land Bank and had minimal problems. That's not a guarantee, nor a recommendation that it'll fit your needs, but it worked for me. FWIW, though, I'm married to a local.
