Hi everyone. I need to get a rough sense of how many people are around #onhere (in this part of the fedi) who might be in the greater NYC region.
I'm in NYC or the greater NYC region
7.4%
I'm not in that region.
86.9%
I will never tell, it is secret.
5.8%

@futurebird Interesting research. Only 7% for NYC, that strongly suggests that you are *not* in the Marvel universe.
@futurebird I think you meant to say how many of you live in or near THE BEST DAMN CITY IN THE WORLD! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜…
@driusan Yokohama silly! Tokyo starts with a T ๐Ÿคญ

@likesoldmacs @futurebird Sadly, I donโ€™t live near Chicago either.

But I do love New York, and I am very excited to go back.

@futurebird maybe @seano can give this a boost for reach in their server
@futurebird Yes Iโ€™m in the Northern Yokohama Coastal region

@futurebird What counts as the greater region? I'm kind of in the grey area there. Like, I travel to NYC weekly, but time-investment-wise it's a trip most people wouldn't do without a good reason.
@futurebird how much greater are we talkin

@flyingsaceur @futurebird that was awesome ๐Ÿ˜†
@akamran @futurebird Do you remember Caesarโ€™s Bay Bazaar?
@flyingsaceur @futurebird no, I don't think I've ever heard of it
@akamran @futurebird I asked because I had a neighbor who grew up in Far Rockaway who latched onto that one line
@flyingsaceur @futurebird must have been a super local thing - I'm from Suffolk county so I'm "greater NYC region" not NYC itself.
@futurebird
What counts has the greater NYC area? Does Connecticut count? How about Rhode Island?

@Quasit

This is about how you perceive it? Basically I want to know roughly what percentage of people in the part of the fedi I encounter might care about local NYC news. These results are about what I expected.

@futurebird I am of the well-thought-out opinion that everyone who lives in New York should know everyone else that lives in New York. They don't have to be friends. Some can even be extremely competitive rivals bearing decades long grudges. And some can be odd couples that somehow work anyway. I think what I'm really getting at is that various television shows have set certain expectations for the city, and it should step up and live up to them.
@futurebird this is a nice instance just for New Yorkers

Thank you!

I may be giving a little presentation about "alternative social media and what are mastodons?" to a media person in the future.

@futurebird Currently West Coast (Portland, OR), but will be in France for a year at mid-April.
@roknrol @futurebird You're in Portland? I just missed you by (checks notes) nine months.

@guyjantic @futurebird Got back at the end of January.

I'm off to Spokane in a couple of weeks, before my move.

@futurebird Hmm. I'm in Brooklyn two months a year.
@futurebird
I wuz in the NYC region for 12 years ending in 1988. (Brooklyn, Manhattan, then Brooklyn again.) Of course, I knew nothing about the Fediverse back then.
I didn't even start using Linux until 1998.
@futurebird You know what this means, donโ€™t you? You can make up fanciful stories about NYC, and only you and I will know.
@futurebird i spent 3 months a year in the lower east side for work. i made the bosses mad enough that i am safe from ever going back.
