We've been weaning ourselves off ordering things from Amazon, so my wife went and ordered something big from a different retailer, who was actually advertising it at a lower price than Amazon. Well, after a week of waiting for the item to ship, it suddenly just arrived. Turns out the order was fulfilled through Amazon anyway.

I bought something on eBay and it was fulfilled through HomeDepot.com, which is a violation of eBay's policies. The difference between Home Depot's price and the price I was charged is not big enough for the seller to have made a profit on the sale.
I'm pretty sure the seller is money-laundering stolen Home Depot gift cards.
@jik @briankrebs Oooh, interesting. Unless they have it automated and they think the 25 cents or whatever they make on it is covering their costs? (though... ebay takes a big cut too).

@jik nobody believes me, but triangulation fraud is a huge (albeit old and well-known) problem, especially w/ third party merchants and eBay. The seller doesn't have the item you want, but they advertise it like they do. When they get an order, they use a stolen credit card to pay for the item but have it shipped to you. You're happy b/c you got what you ordered, but the owner of the stolen card is left to dispute the charges.

@briankrebs That hadn't occurred to me. I suppose it could certainly be that rather than stolen gift cards.
Whatever it is, I'm pretty sure it's not legal.

@briankrebs OH, that's how it's done! I'm really cautious about avoiding drop shippers on eBay, but every now and then I let my guard down because the pricing would make drop shipping it stupid, but then I get surprised by my item arriving via Amazon Prime.

@jik @briankrebs enabling the laundering of stolen gift cards is kind of Fuck ICE in itself
@saltbaygull Yeah, but (a) if indeed it's stolen gift cards then I'm sure they're ripping off many different retailers, not just the ICE-friendly Home Depot, and (b) if it's stolen credit cards instead, which @briankrebs brought up as a possibility, then they're screwing over the people whose credit cards were stolen.
